Emerson has announced the integration of its Nigel AI Advisor into its flagship test and measurement software, including NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand. According to Emerson, this move introduces AI-driven advisement capabilities designed to improve productivity for engineers working with increasingly complex test environments in sectors such as transportation, semiconductor and electronics.
Nigel AI Advisor is built on recent large language models and is specifically trained to understand NI software interfaces. Emerson reports that the system enables engineers to interact with NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand using plain language queries. Nigel analyzes code and provides actionable recommendations for improvement during test development and execution. The company notes that advice covers usage of hundreds of functions, offered through a secure cloud platform to maintain data protection.
Presented for the first time at the NI Connect conference in July 2025, Nigel AI Advisor marks the first step in Emerson’s strategy to integrate test-optimized AI capabilities within its portfolio. Both NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand, along with additional automation tools, are part of the NI LabVIEW+ Suite that supports automated measurement, analysis, and test processes.
Emerson says it plans to expand Nigel’s integration to additional test software in the future with the goal of freeing engineers to address higher-value work. As large language model technology improves, Emerson anticipates that Nigel AI Advisor will increase in capability for specialized test and measurement tasks.
