March 2025 marked a milestone for Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited, as it rolled out its first electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) – the TEZ. This launch positions the company at the heart of India’s fast-growing electric mobility sector, where demand for sustainable cargo and fleet solutions continues to surge.
In an exclusive interaction, Managing Director Vivek Lohia shared insights on JEM’s journey, the strategy behind their battery business acquisition, and their pioneering partnerships to drive adoption.
The TEZ: Built for India’s Logistics Future
The TEZ is designed as a robust, zero-emission alternative for urban cargo movement. With a focus on durability, high payload efficiency, and lower operating costs, it aims to address the growing needs of e-commerce, last-mile delivery, and logistics players. “We envisioned TEZ as a product that blends advanced technology with the practicality required in India’s logistics sector,” said Lohia.
Acquisition of Log9’s Battery Business
A key enabler in this vision has been JEM’s acquisition of the battery business of Log9 Materials, a move that secures in-house capabilities in advanced battery packs and fast-charging technologies. According to Lohia, this integration not only strengthens JEM’s R&D ecosystem but also accelerates product development for future EV platforms. “Battery innovation is central to performance, range, and efficiency. With Log9’s battery expertise, we are in a stronger position to scale quickly and sustainably,” he noted.
The Udaan Program with Porter
JEM is also shaping adoption through strategic collaborations like the Udaan Program with Porter, a fleet services platform. The initiative is aimed at enabling driver-partners and small fleet operators to transition into electric mobility without high upfront costs. “We don’t just want to sell vehicles, we want to build an ecosystem that ensures our customers succeed with EVs,” said Lohia. Through flexible ownership models and operational support, Udaan is expected to accelerate TEZ deployment in urban freight.
The Road Ahead
Looking forward, JEM is charting a roadmap that includes scaling production, expanding the TEZ lineup with multiple variants, and exploring export opportunities in emerging markets. The company also plans to leverage Jupiter Wagons’ strong legacy in engineering and manufacturing to ensure reliability and affordability in its EV offerings.
“We are not entering this space for a short-term play. Our ambition is to become a leading force in India’s EV logistics revolution, and TEZ is only the beginning,” concluded Lohia.
