Ahmedabad-based EV startup Matter Motors has officially launched its much-anticipated Aera 5000 electric motorcycle in Mumbai. Priced between ₹1.74 lakh and ₹1.84 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aera 5000 is set to make waves in India’s two-wheeler EV segment with its revolutionary combination of electric performance and petrol-bike-like control.

Aera 5000: Blending Power, Performance & Familiar Feel

Unlike most electric two-wheelers that rely on a single-speed drivetrain, the Aera 5000 features India’s first 4-speed hyper-shift manual gearbox, offering riders a familiar riding experience that mimics traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes. This unique transmission system is a game-changer, especially for biking enthusiasts who want the thrill of shifting gears—while enjoying the benefits of electric mobility.

At the heart of the Aera 5000 lies a robust 5 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack, which is paired with an electric motor capable of delivering peak power up to 10.5 kW. The bike boasts a top speed of 105 km/h, making it one of the more powerful offerings in its class. With a range of 172 km (IDC) on a single charge, it offers a solid blend of performance and practicality for urban and semi-urban riders.

Advanced Battery and Charging Tech

The liquid-cooled battery is designed in-house by Matter, highlighting the company’s emphasis on thermal efficiency and safety—crucial for Indian weather conditions. The battery is IP67 rated for water and dust resistance and supports both standard and fast charging options. A 0-80% charge can be achieved in less than 2 hours using a fast charger, ensuring minimal downtime for users.

Smart Features and Tech Integration

The Aera 5000 is more than just a powertrain. It comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display powered by Android OS, offering 4G connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, music playback, vehicle diagnostics, OTA updates, and ride statistics. Riders can also connect to the bike through the Matter mobile app, which gives remote access to location tracking, security alerts, and performance analytics.

Nationwide Rollout & Test Ride Availability

Matter Motors has confirmed that bookings and test rides for the Aera 5000 will be available across eight major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. Deliveries are expected to begin in phases over the coming months.

The Aera 5000 will come in multiple variants, including the Aera 5000+, which offers enhanced connectivity and feature upgrades for tech-savvy riders.
