Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of the Hinduja Group, has officially delivered the first batch of its EiV12 low-floor electric city buses to the Department of Transport, Government of Delhi. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to decarbonize urban public transport in India and is part of a larger 950-unit order awarded under the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) tender.
The EiV12 buses are designed as modern, sustainable, and commuter-friendly solutions for urban mobility. Built to international standards, these 12-meter-long buses come with a seating capacity for 39 passengers, ensuring comfort while accommodating daily peak-hour ridership. The buses are low-floor, making boarding and alighting easier for all passengers, including senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. To further enhance accessibility, each bus is equipped with a wheelchair ramp.
On the safety and security front, Switch Mobility has integrated multiple advanced systems. These include CCTV cameras for surveillance, panic buttons for passenger security, GPS tracking for real-time location monitoring, and a fire detection and suppression system (FDSS) for onboard safety. Together, these features create a secure and reliable environment for commuters while providing authorities with efficient fleet oversight.
One of the key innovations in the EiV12 is the use of floor-mounted Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries. This design not only optimizes space but also lowers the center of gravity, improving vehicle stability while enhancing passenger safety. LFP batteries are also known for their thermal stability, long life, and safety credentials, making them an ideal choice for public transport applications in India’s climatic conditions.
For fleet operators, Switch Mobility has incorporated its proprietary SWITCH iON telematics platform. This digital solution enables real-time monitoring of critical bus performance parameters, predictive maintenance, and fleet analytics, thereby reducing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency. Additionally, the buses are equipped with dual-gun charging capability, enabling faster turnaround times in depots and ensuring better fleet utilization during high-demand hours.
The delivery of the EiV12 buses comes at a time when Delhi is intensifying its push toward clean mobility to combat severe air pollution and meet national and state-level climate goals. With a fleet of nearly 1,000 electric buses to be inducted under this CESL order, Delhi is on track to become one of the largest adopters of electric city buses in the country.
Switch Mobility has already established itself as a frontrunner in India’s electric bus market, with a strong focus on innovation, safety, and passenger-centric design. The company aims to leverage its global experience and local expertise to expand the footprint of electric buses not only in Delhi but also in other Indian cities transitioning toward sustainable public transport.
As the adoption of electric buses scales up, Switch Mobility’s EiV12 is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing emissions, improving air quality, and setting new benchmarks in urban mobility.
